YOUNG golfers from all over Scotland will descend on Banchory later this month to compete in the Paul Lawrie Scottish Schools Golf Championship.
The girls event will be played over 36 holes at Banchory Golf Club while the Laird's Course at Inchmarlo Resort and Golf Club will be the venue for the boys event.

The 2008 championships are being sponsored for the first time by Paul Lawrie, which seems apt given that the 1999 Open winner started his professional career as an assistant in the pro shop at Banchory Golf Club.

Recent winners of the Scottish Schoolgirls title have included Alford's Laura Murray in 2005 and Michele Thomson from Ellon in 2006.

Fifty-nine girls will be trying to emulate Laura and Michele at this year's event and Kelsey MacDonald from Nairn Academy will be one of the favourites to enhance her growing reputation by winning on June 16.

Samantha Leslie (Westhill Academy), Louise McGillvray (Banchory Academy) and Lauren Duncan (Aboyne Academy) will represent South Aberdeenshire in the team competition.

South Aberdeenshire will also be well represented in the boys team event by Inchmarlo's Chris Robb and Callum Trahan along with Chris Bremner (Mearns Academy).

The individual title will be hotly contested with Adam Dunton (Ellon Academy), Oliver Huish (North Berwick High) and David Law (Aberdeen Grammar) all out to impress.
