NINETY athletes took part in the annual Knockburn Standard Triathlon on Sunday.

Graeme Stewart (Total Racing International) won the event by breaking the course record with a time of two hours six minutes and 46 seconds. Scott Neyedli (Dresdner Kleinworth/Fleet Feet) finished in second, just ahead of Adam Chmielowski.

The
event was organised by Willie Tulloch and Ewen Murray and sponsored by Norwell. Bert McIntosh, whose family own Knockburn Loch, said it was a resounding success.

He said: "We were fortunate to have a great day for it and it was fantastic to see so many competitors taking part. There was a real variation in the standards taking part with some top class athletes up against some others who were experiencing their first ever triathlon event.

"We were delighted to see so many top class triathletes there and hopefully next year will be even bigger and better than this year was."
The Norwell Racing father and son team of Iain and Michael Adams was first home of the team entrants.

Michael said: "The event was a great success and the beautiful weather certainly helped. Fraser Cartmell, the two time half ironman champion, was supposed to be doing the bike section in our team but he couldn't make it so I did the swim and the bike with my Dad doing the running. It was a great day and the race site looked awesome and very professionally put together."

Westhill triathlete Lewis Murchie was also in action, finishing top under-20 and 16th overall.
