BANCHORY rally driver Euan Duncan has just returned from an exciting trip to Norway where he put a £45,000 Subaru Impreza through its paces.

The 25-year-old was invited to the world famous John Haughland Rally School in Dagali in recognition of his achievements during 2009 when he become the Ecosse 205 Challenge 1.9 class champion and the Scottish Rally Championship class five champion.

Project manager for STi Motorsport George Donaldson invited Euan to the test weekend with John Haughland on hand to give tuition and staff from Proflex Suspension present to give technical advice.

Euan drove the left-hand drive Impreza on a special ice stage constructed on a frozen lake. The Subaru test car was equipped with special metal studded tyres to provide additional grip on the hard ice surface.

Euan was slightly apprehensive while buckling himself into the £45,000 Subaru but those nerves soon disappeared as he raced around on full throttle whilst flames shot from the exhaust.

After only a short time behind the wheel of the car Euan was setting an impressive pace amongst more experienced drivers.

George Donaldson said: "After only two laps Euan had quickly become accustomed to the balance of the car and was making a nicer job of the hairpin than I was! I'm now interested in getting Euan some more time behind the wheel of the car to develop his driving."

Euan has been offered the chance to drive an identical Subaru STi car later this year on a test day in the Scottish forests.

He said: "I cannot wait to drive the car again, the power and handling of it amaze me. I hope to compete in one of these cars soon."
