THE Scottish Championships at Kingussie once again proved a happy hunting ground for local athletes this year.
By winning their classes MAROC's Ewen Kerridge (M12A), Oliver Ford-Bryant (M14B), Abigail Mason (W10A), Jennifer Ricketts (W12A), Frances Wright (W14A), Megan Getliff (W14B) and Mariel Phimitser (W16B) were crowned Scottish Champions 2009.
Further top three places came amongst MAROC's juniors from Graeme Campbell, Finlay Langan, Evelyn Mason, Rhona McMillan, and Jane Lenton.
The relays at Strathmashie, near Newtonmore, the following day were also successful for local Deeside athletes with podium places for three MAROC teams.
Jon Musgrave, Sarah Dunn and Roger Coombs took first place in one of the senior classes, whilst Jessica Mason, Finlay Langan and Joab Matthews emulated their elders by taking home the trophy in the eldest junior class.
Ewen Kerridge, Jennifer Ricketts and Rhona McMillan completed the top three successes with third place on the younger juniors' relay.
The local club had the luck of the draw for their double header races near Braemar at the end of May.
Blazing sunshine throughout the district event at Glen Feardar made for excellent running conditions, whilst Chris Low's challenging courses coupled with the fantastic views from the higher areas of terrain only served to enhance the experience.
Top three places from MAROC runners came on many courses: youngsters Alastair Chapman and Danny Tapper took first and third on the short white course with Joe Wright, Jake Chapman and Abi Mason making it a MAROC 1-2-3 on the yellow course.
The 2.8km orange course was won by Ross McMurtrie from Torphins, with Ewan McMillan in third.
Another 1-2-3 came on the 3.1km light green course with J. Kitching, Evelyn Mason and Alan Sealy taking the honours.
Hazel Wright, back from university and on home territory, was a clear winner of the 4km green course, with Craig Chapman also winning on the blue 6.2km course.
Joab Matthews from Aboyne was the highest placed MAROC athlete in second on the 7.7km brown course with Drew Tivendale making a welcome return to club ranks, close behind in third.
Joab Matthews completed a very successful day by winning the accompanying Braemar Sprint later on in the day, with young Evelyn Mason the next best placed MAROC entrant in sixth.
Following the Scottish Championships and UK selection races, five junior MAROC athletes were selected for British orienteering summer training tours and competitions.
Rhona McMillan and Joab Matthews are heading for Lagganlia and Badaguish on Speyside respectively, whilst Findlay Langan and Kirsty Coombs are travelling further afield to Halden in Norway for two weeks of intensive summer technical and physical training.
Findlay has also been selected for the GB junior team for the first time for the European Youth Championships in Serbia next month, whilst Hazel Wright has been selected as part of the GB junior team for the Junior World Championships coming up, also in July, in the Dolomites in Italy.
