BANCHORY strongman Kenneth Nowicki enhanced his growing reputation by finishing second in the Scotland's Strongest Team 2009 event.
The 20-year-old is already regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the strongman scene after becoming the youngest man to compete in the final of Scotland's Strongest Man at the tender age of 19.

Only half a point separated Kenneth and teammate Stevie Murray from first place at the event, which took place in Dumbarton on May 31.

The competition comprised of five events that tested the strongmen's upper and lower body strength, mobility, grip strength and technical ability.

Kenneth said he was delighted that he and Stevie managed to improve upon the fourth-placed finish they achieved last year.

He told The Piper: "The event went really well and I'm pleased with how we performed on the day. Our highlight of the event was winning the van deadlift against the eight other teams that were competing. I also went head to head with my training partner Andy Cairney on the farmer's hold, which involved lifting 150kg per hand for the longest time. I managed to beat Andy by close to ten seconds, which was a good result."

The Banchory man paid tribute to his teammate after the event.

He said: "Stevie has helped me a huge amount, particularly by giving me advice on how to get the best results by using certain techniques. He has been doing strongman for about eight years and is now retiring as he is 44."

Kenneth said he is pleased with how his preparations are going for his next competition – the UKSC Scottish on July 4.

He added: "My training is going really well at the moment. One of the events there will be a maximum weight squat, starting at 250kg. I managed 320kg on Friday but I am hoping to achieve 340kg on the day."
