BANCHORY St Ternan boss Steve Scott was delighted to see his side dust off the Christmas cobwebs with a penalty shoot-out win over Lewis United on Saturday.
Banchory's McLeman Cup tie with the Aberdeen side was one of the few matches in the North-east to survive the rainy weather.
A penalty shoot-out was required to separate the teams after the score was tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes with Saints eve
ntually progressing to the second round of the competition.
Scott said: "It was a really good win and I always fancy us when it goes to penalties as we tend to be pretty good at them. At times you could tell both teams hadn't played for a while but the pitch was in good condition, all things considering. It was good to get a game under our belts and I was glad it was a cup tie as there was not as much pressure to win as there would have been in a league game."
However the Banchory boss was disappointed that goalscorer Keith Horne was shown a yellow card following an elaborate celebration that climaxed with the striker diving head first into a nearby long jump pit that was full of water.
He said: "I asked the ref where his sense of humour was. It is not the first time Keith has done something out of the ordinary after scoring. I was wondering what the hell he was doing. I thought he was running back into the dressing rooms but then he dived straight into the pit. Of course at half time he was asking for a new kit but I had to say no because we only have one number 10 shirt. He maybe thought afterwards that it wasn't such a good idea!"
The Saints are back on Superleague duty this Saturday when they travel to Longside where Scott is anticipating a stern test for his charges.
He added: "It is always tough up at Longside and I don't think I have ever won a game up there. They have beaten us 4-0 in the Grill League Cup semi-final already this season so we will go up there looking for a little bit of revenge and three points. Hopefully we can achieve that.
"Our boys will be all the better for having got a game under their belts on Saturday. You can train as much as you like in the gym but nothing beats game time in the legs."
