Wet tyres in order at Boyndie Drome
WET tyres were the order of the day as persistent rain lashed across the circuit during the second round of the Boyndie Challenge at Boyndie Drome.
Results were as follows:
Cadets 1st Robert Forsythe (Balmedie); 2nd James Paterson (Granton); 3rd Jamie Chick (Fyvie).
Mini Max 1st Frazer Huntley (Mintlaw); 2nd Darren Patrick (Ballater).
Junior Max 1st Grant Cheesewright (Inverurie); 2nd Adrian Brodie (Aberchirder).
Senior Max 1st Scott Rennie (Ellon); 2nd Gordon Hawton (Boddam); 3rd Stuart Wyness (Inverurie).
Prokart 1st Brian Tawse (Aberchirder); 2nd Jon Sheard (Keith); 3rd David Buchan (Auchterless).
In the Cadets finals, Robert Forsythe got off the line first with Jamie Chick splashing through to take the lead at the Seafield Complex at the first time of asking. However on the second tour Forsythe regained the lead and James Paterson came through to second. These three became spread out.
Steven Allan caught Chick but Allan was not able to take the position. Tessi Aldrick came home fifth and Scott Murray sixth.
The Junior Max and Mini Max was a combined race. Grant Cheesewright took the lead over Adrian Brodie to take a comfortable win.
In the Mini Max class Darren Patrick took the lead with Frazer Huntley close behind.
Patrick was slowed by hitting standing water, which allowed Huntley through into the lead. Patrick was trying hard to get back, which resulted in two offs, ending his challenge.
In the Senior Max, the vastly experienced Scott Rennie was off the line quickest closely followed by Gordon Hawton, Mike Rose, Stuart Wyness, Michael Forsythe and Graham Gow.
Rennie pulled away although Hawton did reduce the gap in the latter stage but not to prevent Rennie taking his first race victory in three years. A close contest was developing for third between Rose, Wyness and Forsythe.
A touch between Forsythe and Wyness at the end of Boyndie Straight resulted in the former spinning out. Wyness was able to concentrate on catching Rose.
On Boyndie straight Wyness drew alongside on several occasions but Rose held the position. However on the final lap and with failing brakes, Rose drifted wide at Kevin's Korner allowing Wyness through.
Rose launched a last ditch attack at Shirlaws but this ended in the tyre barrier. In the meantime Benjamin Underwood had picked his way through to take fourth, the recovering Forsythe taking fifth with Phillip Totton sixth.
The GKC new prokarts feature in a race meeting for the first time, which was far from ideal condition for the control slick tyres.
This resulted in many spins, which led to a confused race, but the lap-scoring ladies remained in control.
Brian Tawse took an early lead and took a comfortable victory. Jon Sheard came through to take second after being at the back on lap one and David Buchan had a steady race to take third.
Trophies were presented in the clubhouse.
Next race meeting at Boyndie will take place on July 13, which will feature the penultimate round of the Scottish Super Series Championships with the racing starting at 11:00.
