Banchory CC 1st XI have been confirmed as 2nd graders next season after losing a match of two halves on a bowling wicket at Burnett Park on Sunday.
A sunny Banchory day saw the 1st XI welcome Cults to Burnett park for the fifth attempt to fulfil the fixture and, following a win of the toss, they invited Cults to bat.
A flurry of Cults’ top order wickets wickets ensued and they were soon 12-3 from 4 overs with wickets from Z.Crawley and R.Perry.
The same two bowlers were able to maintain a strangle hold on the Cults top order and after 12 overs Cults were on 39 for 3 wickets.
A second flurry of wickets had Cults in real trouble at 44 for 5; almost a repeat of the score during the rained off fixture earlier in the season. Wickets then continued to fall at regular intervals and, barring some resistance from Kruba and Niranjan, Cults crumbled to 107 all out.
A fantastic bowling performance by R.Perry who topped his high score with the bat last week with his best bowling of 6-27 from 12 overs. Perry was supported by Z.Crawley who took two wickets and one each from T.Wilkinson and S.Richards on his 1st XI debut.
Banchory then padded up and faced some quality medium-fast bowling from C.Forbes and A.Gill. On a helpful pitch, the Cults openers produced devastating spells to remove the majority of the Banchory top order.
C.Forbes strung together seven maidens punctuated only by two wicket-maidens to finish with 4-19 from 12 overs.
Valiant resistance was offered by T.Wilkinson, the only batsman to reach double figures, supported by M.Mcpherson and Z.Crawley.
The target looked achievable against the Cults’ second string bowlers but overall it was a disappointing defeat as the batsmen were unable to capitalise on a strong bowling display.
The 1st XI now look forward to next season in Grade II and are firmly resolved to bounce straight back up to Grade I.
Banchory CC are supported by the Douglas Arms Hotel and the Derbar restaurant.
