Banchory U13s entertained Huntly U13s at Burnett Park last Monday evening.
Huntly won the toss and elected to bat and were in immediate trouble as they lost C. Shorten to the first delivery caught and bowled by J. Richards.
There was a steady fall of wickets as Banchory bowled and fielded competitively. Buxton played well and top scored with 9.
Banchory bowlers all picked up wickets – J. Richards 2 for 5, C. Wilson 1 for 13, Tim Groves 2 for 4, C MacPhail 3 for 5 and Ram Ravishankar 1 for 5.
There was some excellent fielding with fine catches by Richards and Ben Arkless who made some outstanding stops in the field. Huntly were eventually all out for 32 in the 16th over.
The score of 32 was always going to be a difficult total to defend and so it proved with J. Richards (22 not out) and C MacPhail seeing Banchory to victory with only four overs bowled.
However, both the Huntly opening bowlers (Shorten and Sutcliffe) looked promising, but with a low total to defend they bowled well in pursuit of a lost cause.
Banchory again fielded three players who had not played before, and anyone interested in playing should get in touch with the club as the development of the U13s is a key element in the continued success of Banchory Cricket Club.
There are more games to be played and training will continue through the summer.
