Banchory maintained their good start to the season with a resounding 8–0 win against a hard working Middlefield side to progress into the quarter finals of the Association Trophy.
Early chances were few at a blustery Inverdee with Middlefield coming the closest when a dangerous cross was headed over the bar.
Banchory took the lead after 10 minutes when a good move through the centre saw Buchan’s shot only parried by the keeper and SMITH pounced to place the ball into the corner of the net.
The next 10 minutes of play saw the home side have the majority of the ball but were unable to convert any of the chances. The best opportunity came from the Middlefield full back, ghosting in at the back post to head over.
This sparked Banchory into life as they finally started to play the ball on the ground.
The Banchory boys increased their lead when a fine effort by Davies was again fumbled by the keeper for BUCHAN to slot the ball home.
Next it was HENDERSON to finish after a sweeping move up the right.
A minute later the Banchory side made it four, when FINDLAY latched onto a through ball and coolly placed the ball off the inside of the post past the goalkeeper.
The first half did finish with Middlefield on the attack and would have scored had it not been for a fine stop from Leslie in goals.
The second period saw the Deesiders dominate play and it was no surprise when they added to their tally of goals with strikes from CHRISTIE, SMITH, HENDERSON and BUCHAN with the pick of the bunch being a Henderson half volley from just inside the half.
This was just what was required with the Banchory Boys playing in the Scottish Cup this coming week-end where they welcome Monifieth Athletic from Dundee.
The game is at Milton Park, Crathes with a 2pm kick off.
Team: Leslie, Iason, Rennie, Reid, Rowett, Findlay, Smith, Christie, Buchan, Henderson, Davies, McRae, Sadler.
