Culter leave it late to snatch win

Culter left it really late before progressing to the next round of the GA Engineering Inter Region Cup in a poor game at Dundee as neither side got to grips with the blustery conditions and the heavy pitch.

The Deesiders started brightly playing into a stiff breeze with Dod McBain whizzing down the right before sending in a telling cross which just evaded Lewis McKimmie.

Jamie McAllister then tried his luck with spectacular overhead kick but the ball flew just over.

At the other end there was an almighty melee in the Culter box before Jim Sievwright eventually cleared the danger.

Much of the action was confined to the middle of the park for the remainder of the first period but the referee did start to produce a series of soft yellow cards.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first until Ross McWilliam clipped the bar with a fine effort.

Culter were beginning to apply the pressure now and were virtually camped in the Downfield half without really troubling the home ‘keeper.

With the official 90 minutes over Culter stole it when a Hugh Robertson free kick was deftly flicked into the net by Allan YOUNGSON.

This seemed to rally the home side and they pushed hard to level the game but Culter held out for the final few minutes to progress.

Culter: Farquhar Sim, Robertson, Kelly, Sievwright, Shand, McAllister, Brown, McWilliam (Youngson), McKimmie, McBain. Unused subs: Wilson, Craik, Murray, McIntosh (GK).
