Deeside RFC 1st XV left their Woodend base in Banchory last Saturday to travel to Blairgowrie to get the 2012/13 season off and running with a 10’s tournament they attend every year.
As usual Blairgowrie were very welcoming, the fields looking in very good condition.
Seven teams attended this year with some good squad sizes. Deeside got off to a bumpy start drawing the first game 5-5 with Crieff but started to show signs of settling in.
Deeside then went on a five game winning streak, ending the tournament winning five games and drawing just one, no losses and scoring 23 tries and conceding six.
It was a solid team performance and every member of the team deserved a player of the tournament recognition.
Although 10’s is a quicker game Deeside showed what they are capable of, and the upcoming season is looking very promising.
The season will start this weekend with a cup game away to Kinloss, but this season brings excitement and no doubt a lot more good performances from the Deeside 1st XV.
