Deeside won their first away fixture against Gordonstoun School in the U16 league, scoring four tries and two conversions in perfect conditions.
Deeside played very well in the first half, scoring two quick tries set up by strong scrumaging and rucks from the forwards, and exceptional handling and offloads made by Hillier and Williams, with Long and Hutcheon scoring the well deserved tries.
The visitors continued to take the game to the home team, and came very close to converting a third try in the corner, following a break from Lenton, with excellent support from Cowie, who was denied a score in the corner with a fierce tackle on the line.
A slight lapse in concentration with some strong forward play from the big Gordonstoun forwards yielded a try before half time, making the score 12-5.
Straight from the kick off for the second half, Gordonstoun attacked with solid runs by their strong no 8 but Deeside denied the home side opportunities from some hard hitting tackles, and strong defence.
This was not enough to stop the heavier and stronger Gordonstoun forwards win a couple of decisive rucks and breakdown ball, and give them a platform for a try in the corner.
Undeterred, the Deeside pack did well to regain momentum, with an unstoppable run by Thompson to reach over and score Deesides third try, converted by Christie.
After some scrappy exchanges, Long with close support from Hutcheon, cut through Gordonstoun’s defence to go over for a great fourth try and conversion.
With three players injured, and energy running low, Gordonstoun applied increasing pressure on the Deeside line for the reminaing quarter of the game.
Some unbelievable tackles, most notably from newcomer Cameron Morrison and full back Hutcheon kept the home team out for over 10 minutes, only letting in one more score before full time.
A great performance from the Deesiders, notching up their first away win of the season.
Their next match is against Aberdeen Grammar, at Woodend Barn on Sunday October 14, kick off 13:00.
