Banchory boxer Drew Robertson ran away with the Scottish intermediate boxing title at Ravenscraig sports facilitly in Motherwell on Saturday.
Sixteen-year-old Drew, who has been boxing for the Kincorth Amatuer Boxing Club for two years, won his final convincingly with a score off 10 points to 2,
Drew’s coach Philip Brown said: “Drew had an amazing season last year, winning the Scottish Novice title for 0-7 bouts, boxing two very good Glasgow opponents, Drew was matched in the final in the intermediates against Andrew Smart of Elgin abc who had only lost once in his ten bouts so far. Drew who we also entered into the open championships two months ago, lost his semi final to the eventual winner by a score of 2-1 but from that experiance we went back to the gym and worked on some off the things that we thought he had done wrong.”
“For a lad with only 13 bouts to his name this was a great performance ( in Motherwell). In his final Drew boxed smoothly taking his time and setting traps for his opponent to fall into, being a good counter boxer.
He got his jab going in the first round and by the third round was well in control but then he landed the perfect one-two which landed flush and the score 10-2 says it all.”
Drew is an apprentice builder with Deeside Contractors and that is hard work but he still makes time to do his training.
Coach Brown added: “Drew has a big future in this sport possibly a vest for Scotland in the near future if he keeps improving the way he is.”
