Banchory footballer, Graeme Sharp, will receive his testimonial match at Balmoor Stadium in Peterhead this Saturday, July 12.
Home side, Peterhead FC, will take on former highland league derby rivals, Fraserburgh, in a pre-season friendly.
Graeme is well known to many in Deeside having grown up in Banchory and attended the local primary school and academy.
He excelled at many sports in his school days but ‘The Beautiful Game’ was his main love – playing for the school teams, Banchory Boys Club, in the summer league and local junior side Banchory St Ternan.
Montrose FC were the first senior club to recognise Graeme’s abilities and he played his inaugural Scottish league game for them at age 16.
He went on to play over 100 games for them over four seasons before Peterhead FC bought him when he was age 20.
Over his 10 years with Peterhead, Graeme has gone on to play more than 330 games for them – culminating in receiving his testimonial season for long and loyal service.
Last season, he won a Scottish league 2 winners’ medal – and over the years has enjoyed many matches against some of the Premier League clubs like Aberdeen, Celtic, Hearts and Hibs as well as beating Rangers 2 – 1 in front of 44,000 home fans at Ibrox two seasons ago.
On leaving Banchory Academy, Graeme went on to Aberdeen University and is now employed with an oil company in the city.
