The culmination of 12 months intensive fundraising saw Banchory Boys under 15s head off to sunny Salou to take part in the Costa Daurada Cup.

The tournament followed a Champions’ League format with two groups of four teams.

Banchory won their first match against Irish opposition before losing the next against a strong Spanish
side.

The final group game ended in a 2-2 draw against Liverpudlian opposition; a result which saw Banchory progress to the semi-finals.

Despite losing the semi against the eventual winners, Athletico Chopera from Madrid, the boys acquitted themselves extremely well and formed lifelong friendships with many of the other teams, particularly their conquerors. Such was the close bond between Banchory and Chopera that the full squad travelled to the final to support their new amigos and celebrate with them at the final
whistle.

The trip concluded with a tour of Barcelona’s magnificent Nou Camp stadium. Walking down the tunnel and out into the stadium is a fantastic experience for any young footballer and old coach!

Everyone connected with the club would like to thank all parents, sponsors and local businesses for all their support and contributions over the last 12 months. It was a truly fantastic fund raising effort that ensured a most memorable trip for all boys and coaching staff.
