Gymnasts win a silver at national championships

Garioch Gymnastics Club took part in the prestigious Scottish National Championships last month.

Five gymnasts travelled to Perth with their coaches Janine Robertson and Emily Bull for the all round competition, team event and apparatus finals.

Jessie Smith took part in the senior event, Beth McCaw and Kerry Smith were in the junior section and Alford’s Izzy Tolometti and Alix Still took part in the espoir age group.

Garioch were the only club from the North of Scotland represented in the Women’s Artistic section of the Championships and the girls performed extremely well.

In fact, the Garioch club had their most successful National Championships ever. They were the only club in the whole competition to win overall and apparatus medals in every age group, every gymnast entered qualified for every Apparatus Final they were eligible for and Garioch won team silver, beaten only by the city of Glasgow Club. These achievements are made even more admirable by the fact that they were the only gymnasts competing who do not train in a full time gymnastics facility.

Individual results:

Espoir

Izzy Tolometti = SILVER Overall, 5th Vault, SILVER Bars, 5th Beam & SILVER Floor. Alix Still = BRONZE Overall, BRONZE Vault, BRONZE Bars, 6th Beam & 4th Floor.

Juniors

Beth McCaw = BRONZE Overall, SILVER Vault, BRONZE Beam & SILVER Floor. Kerry Smith = 5th Overall, 4th Bars, 4th Beam & 4th Floor

Seniors

Jessie Smith = BRONZE Overall, BRONZE Vault, BRONZE Bars, BRONZE Beam & SILVER Floor.
