The start of the school football season got off in earnest with the annual Torphins 5 a-side tournament on Saturday, October 3.

On the sun-baked pitches in the Torphins park, 15 teams battled for the silverware, where Hill of Banchory was represented by three different teams.

After a flawless run in the group stages, HoB Hotspurs had a narrow escape in the semi finals and came back strong in the final against Torphins who went through to the final after a penalty shoot-out.

In a game that saw end-to-end football both goalies stepped up to the task, with two very different styles.

Whilst the HoB goalie Daniel Redmond frequently intercepted dangerous long balls well away from his line, the Torphins goalie held his line with a number of very impressive saves.

One of the last chances of the game fell to Conor Sibson, who finally managed to break the deadlock with a low shot that beat the brave Torphins goalie at close range.

Coach Ewan Wildgoose’s debut could not have been better with a 100% score in this early season tournament. Well done to
the full team!
