A former North-east of Scotland boys’ golf champion from Aboyne has won the two-day Jamestown University Spring Invitational.
Daniel Thompsett, a third-year student at Rocky Mountain College, Billings in Montana, was playing at Jamestown Country Club, North Dakota last week.
Over a par-72 course of 6578yd, Daniel had rounds of 74 and 70 for a level par total of 144.
He headed the field of 35 players by two strokes.
Rocky Mountain College won the team title by 16 strokes from a field of five teams.
Thompsett is coached by Andrew Locke at the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre (when he is home on holiday).
Banchory’s Chris Robb, in the last few weeks of his fourth and final year at Tennessee-Chattanooga University, finished second last week in the Southern Conference Championship at National Golf Club, Pinehurst in North Carolina.
Robb, a member at Meldrum House GC, shot a final round of seven-under-par 65 over a par-72 course of 7122 but finished two shots behind the winner.
Aformer winner of the North-east District Open, he had earlier rounds of 74 and 69. His total of 208 was eight under par.
