Deeside beat Shetland for first win of the season

A beautiful autumn day in Banchory brought three teams together as both Deeside & Shetland were assisted by players from Dyce RFC.

Both teams were determined to attack with the ball in hand from the very start of the game, Shetland preferring a narrow attack with their big pack of forwards and Deeside attacking through the midfield and wider channels.

The scrums and line-outs were a mixed bag as either team struggled to gain any form of upper hand at the set plays and the outside half for Shetland was beginning to show his class with some excellent moves through the Deeside defence.

Deeside started to put phases of play together just before half time and with the addition of some words of encouragement from Eric Strachan and Bruce Strachan at half time Deeside started the second half with a fresh focus and determination to play their style of Rugby.

Both teams were pushing hard in attack and defences were beginning to creak, with Deeside again working hard to get the ball through the hands to attack down the wings.

The score creeped up as Deeside fitness levels enabled them to keep the pressure onto a Shetland side that had a never give up attitude to playing and kept attacking to the final whistle.

A classic game of two halves with some great Rugby played in the second half from both teams.

The result moved Deeside off the foot of the table at the expense of Shetland.

Deeside will now focus on building player numbers at the club for the rest of the season.

The will next be in action when they travel to Inverurie this Saturday to play Garioch RFC.
