Deeside member Elaine Farquharson-Black has been chosen by the Ladies Golf Union to captain the Great Britain and Ireland team in next June’s Junior Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe at Chantilly Golf Club, near Paris.
Elaine, a past Scottish women’s amateur champion, played for Great Britain and Ireland in two Curtis Cup matches against the United States (1990 and 1992) and two Vagliano Trophy matches against the Continent of Europe (1989 and 1991).
She has captained Scotland on several occasions but this is the first time she will have led a GB and I team.
Elaine, the mother of two young boys, is enthusiastic about her new role as captain: “Attending this year’s Curtis Cup at Nairn brought back many warm memories for me of representing my country and I am honoured to be asked to captain the Junior Valgiano team.
“The match is a wonderful opportunity for our young players embarking on their international careers.
“I was fortunate to play under several inspirational catpains and I hope that I can use my own experiences to help the next generation of golfers develop. I am also looking forward to working with and learning from Tegwen Matthews who led the Curtis Cup team so magnificently at Nairn.”
Tegwen Matthews has accepted an invitation from the LGU to captain the GB and I team in next year’s Vagliano Trophy match at Chantilly and also the 2014 Curtis Cup match at St Louis Country Club, Missouri.
