Garioch Gymnasts Club, based at the Garioch Community Centre (behind the swimming pool) in Inverurie have had a busy September with six of their gymnasts travelling to Stoke for the Bill Slater team Championships.
The Championships is for Espoir & Junior age group gymnasts including some of the best young practitionersin the country.
The Garioch Glitter Girls who took part were Joanne Lowe (15 from Strichen), Izzy Tolometti (15 from Alford), Daisy Willcocks (14 from Insch), Erin Fraser (12 from Inverurie), Leah Reid (11 from Kemnay) and Brooke Masson (10 from Turriff). They travelled with their club coaches – Janine Robertson and Cathy Osborne.
The girls competed very well, remaining calm and professional throughout. They achieved a fabulous 11th place finish – with a score that was over eight points higher than last year. To add to the success, Izzy Tolometti achieved a top five finish on the asymmetric bars.
A club spokesperson said: ‘‘It was a fabulous result for the girls, all at the club are very proud of their triumph – thank you to all the parents for their help with organising and who travelled with us to support the Glitter Girls!’’
Garioch Gymnastics Club is the most successful girls’ competitive gymnastics club in the north of Scotland, however it also has an extensive participation programme on offer to boys and girls from two years of age.
The club, in conjunction with Aberdeenshire Council, offer a quality recreational gymnastics coaching programme at various venues in Inverurie and the surrounding area. Recreational gymnastics classes are led by British Governing Body qualified and very experienced coaches, who are all PVG checked and Child Protection trained, in Inverurie, Insch, Kintore, Oldmeldrum, Kemnay and Ellon.
