Deeside’s youth teams put in some good performances at the annual Lathallan School Rugby Sevens tournament last weekend.

Throughout the day there were four competitions ongoing as Deeside came runners-up in two and third in another.

The P6/P7s team competed in the Rathbone’s Investment Management Trophy and finished third behind second placed Mackie and eventual winners Robert Gordon College.

In the S1/S2 Howie Family Trophy, Deeside’s team were runners-up to Mackie while in the U16s Bain Family Trophy the came second to hosts Lathallan.

There was also special recognition for Deeside’s Euan Caldwell who was joint player of the tournament alongside Lathallan’s Drew Christie.

Teams from Mackie, Carnoustie, Montrose, Robert Gordon’s College, Strathmore, Strathallan, Harris (Dundee), Balfron/Strathkendrick, Madras and of course the hosts Lathallan made up the full line-up across the age groups.

The P7 team played some great rugby to beat Carnoustie and Montrose on the day and fought hard for a 3-3 draw with Lathallan before losing out to Robert Gordon and Mackie.

The U14s also had victories over Montrose and Carnoustie as well as Strathmore and, last year’s winners, Madras.

The game against Mackie could have gone either way but ended in a 2-1 defeat.

TheU16s team suffered defeats at the hands of Moray and Lathallan but were strong in their other four games to beat Harris AC, Mackie, Balforn HS and Montrose.

Deeside RFC will be hosting a mini tournament on Saturday, May 14 - the same day as the club’s AGM.
