Local athlete Jake Chapman, a pupil at Banchory Academy, has been selected to represent Great Britain in the European Youth Orienteering Championships in Jaroslaw, Poland this week from June 30 to July 4, 2016.

Jake, a long-time member of local orienteering club MAROC, has been recognised at national level, having been selected for the British Orienteering Talent Squad in Summer 2015, one of only two in his age group from the UK.

At last year’s World Schools Orienteering Championships in Antalya, Turkey, Jake became Scotland’s first Individual World Schools Champion leading the Banchory Academy boys’ team into Gold medal position.

Successes this year include winning both Scottish and GB Junior Night Orienteering Championships and more recently becoming British Middle Distance Champion at an event held earlier this month near Dorking in Surrey.

Jake has been representing Scotland for several years as part of the Scottish Junior Orienteering Squad and his hard work and commitment will put him in good stead for competing as part of the British junior team in Poland.

Former Banchory Academy pupil, Jenny Ricketts of Edinburgh University Orienteering Club will also be representing GB at the Junior World Orienteering Championships held in Switzerland on 9th July.

Jenny currently runs for Edinburgh University.Orienteering Club and has previously competed for GB at the European Youth Orienteering Championships last year in Romania.
