Banchory’s James Byrne won his first professional tournament and a £4,000 winner’s cheque when he finished top of the leaderboard at the Northern Open championship at Meldrum​ House.

Byrne was the clear winner on 12 under par for a total of 268, five shots clear of defending champion David Law.

Banchory’s Greig Hutcheon - who won two years ago - finished in fourth place.
