An Invitational Tournament at Torphins Golf Club recently was a fitting occasion for members and guests to gather to recognise the loyal service of Derek Mathers who retired after 24 and a half years as the club’s greenkeeper.

Members, who turned out in large numbers for the tournament and celebratory BBQ dinner, presented Derek with a Silver Quaich and cheque as a token of their thanks for his commitment, knowledge and enthusiasm he brought to the maintenance of the course and club.

The course, which is in superb condition thanks to Derek’s work and is one of the best kept secrets in the region, will now be tended by Dylan Meinen, formerly of Aboyne Golf Club.

Everyone at Torphins Golf Club wished Derek all the best in his retirement and look forward to seeing him as a playing member at the club soon.
