A team of 12 from Banchory Academy travelled to Leeds last weekend to compete in the British Schools Orienteering Championships.
They won the ‘Large Secondary’ category.
It was the second time that Banchory had won these championships in four years, the other being in 2011.
There were also age class victories for Joe Wright, John Getliff and Danny Skinner in the Year 9 boys’ class and for Kirsty and Eilidh Campbell and Claire McGarvey in the Year 9 girls’ category.
Jenny Ricketts and Rosie Getliff were third in Year 12 girls.
It was an exceptional team effort with nine of the team coming in the top eight in their respective classes, and it was this consistency from everybody in the team that secured the overall victory.
Individual results included first for Joe Wright in B9, third for Jenny Ricketts in G12, thirrd for Alistair Chapman in B8, third for John Getliff in B9 and third for Jake Chapman in B10.
Having conquered the best school teams in Britain, Banchory’s orienteers now have the World Schools Orienteering Championships in Turkey next April in their sights.
