The second Tarland Show Mountain Bike race, sponsored by Overton Motors, takes place on Saturday, August 10.

The race will start opposite the show ground entrance at 11.30am, race registration from 10.30am.

There is a slightly extended route this year, just over 10km, with a hard lung-bursting ascent, and a few new twists, to the top of Pittenderich followed by an excellent flowing descent back to the village.

The new course means a new record to be claimed and it is expected that last year’s winners, Wayne Blair of Aboyne and Kathy Dale of Tarland, will be strong contenders and aiming to retain the respective trophies.

There will be a race entry limit of 35, first come first served, and pre entry is advisable.

Full details will appear on the Tarland Show website very soon, or contact Iain or Ruth Mackenzie on 01339881053.

The Mountain Bike race will be followed by the Hill Race, from the showground to the summit of Pittenderich, with a 3pm start in the afternoon.

A new challenge for this year is the prize for best, amalgamated, time for combined Mountain Bike and Hill Race.
