For the third week in a row Torphins had yet another cup tie. They faced bitter rivals St Laurence in the second round of the Dickie Trophy.
Torphins got off to a dream start in the first ten minutes with, on form striker, Allardyce bagging his 5th goal in 4 games. A cross came in from the left and ALLARDYCE hit first time with a right foot volley on target. The ball took a wicked deflection and went in to the roof of the net.
Torphins were holding firm and the Saints had their keeper to thank to keep Torphins from going two up from Johnstone’s header.
St Laurence also went close and Cooper had a good save to make, to keep Torphins ahead at half time.
Like recent weeks Torphins struggled to get back into the game at the beginning of the second half as St Laurence began dominating possession.
On 65 minutes St Laurence pulled another top class save out of Cooper low to his left.
With ten minutes remaining St Laurence netted an equaliser. A long free kick found Cooper in no man’s land as the ball sailed into the net.
Michie was replaced by Mackenzie, and Torphins went 4 4 2, to go looking for a winner. The change was almost immediate. Brown now partnering Allardyce up front was put through on goal by his strike partner. The forward went round the keeper but his shot lacked power and a defender got back to clear.
For the third week in a row, Torphins found themselves in extra time as Beveridge replaced Allardyce.
Torphins took the lead in the second half. Kellas hit a ball forward from back and BROWN ran in to lift the ball over the keeper for 2-1.
Shortly after, the Phins put the game to bed. Mackenzie broke forward and his 20 yard effort came crashing off the post. However BROWN was there to put the Phins through to the next round.
