Saints get back to winning ways at Stonehaven

Saints bounced back from their defeat to Maud with a comfortable win against neighbouring Stonehaven.

In a fast pace opening Banchory’s Scott Garrett tested the home keeper with a powerful shot.

Two minutes later McKenzie in the Saints goal was at his best to tip an overhead kick onto the bar and away to safety.

Garrett was at the thick of things again when a great cross from Stainer was headed goal wards only for his follow up shot to be prodded high and wide from two yards.

Saints were on top and the opener was just a matter of time. From a Watt corner, Stainer picked up the loose ball at the back post and found Alan McRae who sent in a low driven cross that missed everybody and nestled into the far corner.

Before the half time whistle, Shand and Fettes both game close to doubling Saints lead with headers that went just off target.

Another frantic start to the second period resulted in a free kick from wide on the left for Banchory. Keith Horne’s delivery caught the home keeper off guard as it sailed high into the top right corner for a 2-0 lead.

Derek McKenzie produced an excellent save low to his right just 60 seconds later. Then a break from the resulting corner saw Garrett and Horne outstrip the back four, with Horne’s shot going just wide.

But Saints’ third put the result in little doubt when Ritchie Stainer finished well from a Watt throw in.

Stoney pulled one back on the hour when a ball in from the left found Byron on the edge of the box, whose turn and shot found McKenzie’s bottom right corner.

Bob Ritchie replaced Stainer with 20 minutes to go and he made the points safe when Ogston’s long ball down the right found Horne, whose cross was laid into the path of Ritchie by Forbes, and he made no mistake to complete the scoring.
