Banchory St.Ternan have organised three tough pre-season friendly fixtures prior to their season starting on Tuesday, August 7.

The first match is this Saturday (July 21) with an away game at Princess Royal Park, Banff against Highland League Deveronvale, kick off 3pm.

They will then face Echt Amateurs at Echt on Wednesday, July 25 (7pm), with the final game against Highland League Rothes who visit Milton Park on Saturday, July 28, (2.30pm).

Manager Sandy Carrol started pre-season training on 30th June and is pleased with what he has seen so far.

He said: “Everything is going to plan, pre-season games are organised against very tough opposition and I am sure the lads will give a good account of themselves as they have been training very hard recently.

“We have added a considerable amount of new players to the squad this season with quite a few local lads signed from Banchory Boys Club and various Junior and Amateur clubs, giving us a good blend of youth and experience.”

Saints have had to rebuild almost an entire squad with several players deciding to leave, some after lengthy spells with the club.

Making their departure are: Mark Galashan to Dyce Juniors, Alan McRae has decided to sign for champions Hermes after six seasons at Milton. Richard Stainer has signed for FC Stoneywood, and Jake Strachan has made the drop to Amateurs. Campbell Watt has not turned up to pre-season and looks as though he is on his way to Stonehaven. In addition Scott Garrett is moving to study at Edinburgh University.

However, Sandy has been hard at work since the end of last season to bring the right players into the Milton Park set up, and things are looking promising for the future with a young squad being put together.

Carrol has signed Jack Henderson and Darren Reid from the successful Banchory Boys 17s with Murray Buchan and Steve Gray from Banchory Boys 19s. From Lewis United, forwards Jindrich Biskup and Dean Leith and a quartet of players from Sunnybank: Banchory lad Andrew Close, Torphins keeper Justin Knowles who was with the club a couple of seasons ago, plus Andy Smith and Steve Thomson.

Aboyne full back Craig Graham also rejoins from Bridge of Don Thistle, with Daniel Ross and Richie Ross signing from Amateur outfits Kincorth and Dyce Amateurs respectively.

Another four signings are expected shortly to complete the squad.

Saints season starts with a tough Grill League Cup Section of five games: East End (Away) 7th Aug, ko 7pm; Ellon United (Home) 11th Aug, ko 2pm; Stonehaven (Home) 14th Aug, ko 7pm; Banks O’Dee (Away) 18th Aug, ko 2pm and FC Stoneywood (Home) 25th Aug, ko 2pm.
