Simpson leads Scots team home

Banchory’s Robbie Simpson finished fourth when representing Scotland in the senior men’s 10K race at the Home Countries trail running international at Keswick on Sunday.

Former English cross-country champion Steve Vernon (England) won the contest in 31min 57sec with his compatriot Andy Jones runner-up in 32:44.

Ireland’s Brian McMahon was third in 32:44 with Deeside Runners member Simpson, 20, just five seconds behind. England won the team competition ahead of Scotland. Deeside’s Claire Whitehead was 12th in the senior women’s race.

Meanwhile, Aboyne’s Matt Sullivan, competing for Shettleston Harriers, picked up a bronze medal in the Scottishathletics hill running championships.
