Another superb performance saw Banchory’s Robbie Simpson finish third in the world long-distance mountain running championships at Podbrdo in Slovenia at the weekend.
The 19-year-old member of Deeside Runners’ Club stuck to his pre-race plan of holding back until the final third of the race which featured the toughest climb of the contest.
Simpson said that lots of people suffered on the last climb and that his tactic saw him catching and overtaking at least ten other runners.
The 37 km event was won by Slovenia’s Mitja Kosovelj in 3hr 22min and 32 sec.
Simpson was 3:29:05.
He also helped Scotland win team gold medals.
