Banchory kicked off the New Year with a fine win against a hard working Stonehaven team.

The conditions on the day were very windy and played on a tight pitch which made for fast end-to-end football.

Banchory opened the scoring when BUCHAN was neatly found inside the box by his striking partner Henderson.

Minutes later a cross from the right was again played into the path of BUCHAN who tapped the ball home for his second.

Stonehaven did not sit back and created a couple of chances with the wind, however, the home side did score through an obscure moment at the back moments later.

A long ball forward saw Leslie come out to clear, only for the keeper to miss the ball and allow the striker to run on and place the ball into the empty net.

Banchory then started to create chances but found the Stonehaven keeper in excellent form, pulling off fine saves from Henderson, Smith, Tubby and Christie.

Midway through the half Banchory increased their lead when HENDERSON broke clear down the right and expertly found the corner of the net from eight yards.

It was soon to be four, when Buchan converted from the penalty spot after Rennie was upended in the box. This completed Buchan’s hat-trick.

As the first half came to a close the best strike of the day went to HENDERSON when he collected the ball from just inside the half and unleashed a shot from fully twenty five yards that flew into the net.

The second period saw Banchory play with the strong breeze, and after early efforts from McPherson, Davies, and Tubby just went wide, HENDERSON also completed his hat-trick to make it 6-1.

Stonehaven pulled another goal back before NICOLL opened his account on the day with a well taken header from Davies’ corner on the left.

Minutes later SMITH was found from a cross by Henderson to divert the ball into the net.

BUCHAN then increased his tally to four when he was found with a great pass from Sadler.

Finally IASON finished off a good move down the right when he ghosted in at the back post to complete the scoring.

The win will put them in good spirits ahead of their Scottish Cup quarter-final which is scheduled for the January at Milton, weather permitting.

Banchory: Leslie, Sadler, Rennie, Reid, Rowett, Christie, Smith, Nicoll, Buchan, Henderson, Tubby, McPherson, Davies and Iason.
