Banchory Sports Centre was the venue for the first Deeside Primary Tournament held in memory of Brian James Chalmers.
Junior players from Banchory, Drumoak, Lumphanan, and Kincardine O’Neil were enthusiastically supported by teachers, parents and coaches.
Members of the wider badminton community, who had known Brian, also came along to pay respects to the family and ensure this new tournament got off to a resounding start.
Players treated the spectators to displays of skill, determination and courage. The Chalmers family, who with The Rev. Mrs Alison Hutchison came up with the idea of the tournament, were represented by brothers George and Gordon Chalmers. The day was rounded off by George and Gordon as they presented the players with certificates and encouraging words. Individual winners and runners up received trophies with the overall winning team being presented with the Brian Chalmers Memorial Shield.
Results: Girls Singles winner: Katie Anderson (Lumphanan); Boys Singles winner: Tom Flaherty (Banchory); Doubles winner: Tom Flaherty and Hamish Alexander (Banchory) The Banchory team won the Brian Chalmers Memorial Shield.
