Mar Orienteering Club hosted the fifth race in this year’s Scottish Orienteering League at Cambus o’ May last Sunday.
The event attracted around three hundred competitors from across Scotland and included a North Area inter-club competition for younger junior competitors as well as the Northern Lights trophy.
There were a number of podium placings for Maroc juniors including Alistair Chapman (1st M10), Matthew Gooch (2nd M10), John Getliff (3rd M10), Jo Wright (2nd M12), Megan Ricketts (2nd W12), Abigail Mason (1st W14), Rosie Getliff (3rd W14), Bronwyn Matthews (2nd W16), Catriona Walker (3rd W16) and Ewen Kerridge (3rd M16). The Maroc junior team also won the inter-club competition ahead of the Grampian and Inverness clubs.
Earlier in the day a team of older Maroc juniors took part in the Peter Palmer Relays, an overnight inter-club competition held in the Midlands, starting at 4:45am. The team of Finlay Langan, Callum Roberts, Rhona McMillan, Jessica Mason, Jane Lenton, Evelyn Mason and Joshua Dudley ran impressively to finish 3rd overall and win the trophy for the first “small” club.
A record ten Maroc youngsters have been selected to represent Scotland in the Junior Home International competition in N Ireland next month. Rosie Getliff, Abigail Mason, Frances Wright and Joshua Dudley will make their JHI debut alongside Finlay Langan, Joab Matthews, Jennifer Ricketts, Bronwyn Matthews, Rhona McMillan and Jessica Mason.
