A night of fundraising is to be held at Ballater’s Deeside Inn to raise cash to send a local young person on a three-week adventure to Sri lanka.

Ballater charity, Schoolhouse Trust, will be holding the fundraising event - The BIG Ballater Night Out - in the village’s Albert Hall and Sheridan Room on Saturday, March 8, from 7.30 pm to 1am.

The event will raise money to provide part-funding for an Upper Deeside young person (aged 18-25) to travel to Sri Lanka for three weeks, as part of the 2014 English Camp team.

Camp uses a variety of activities to teach the children spoken English and all activities lead to a performance at the end.

Schoolhouse Trust spokesperson Cathy Low said: “Schoolhouse is delighted and overwhelmed by the generosity of Ballater’s Lochnagar Indian Brasserie and two excellent bands.

‘‘Long-established Flites from Aberdeen and local band Bingo Wings will provide a night of great music ranging from 60s to present day, and Lochnagar Indian Brasserie are very kindly donating an Indian supper, to be served to all guests.

“The mind-broadening, confidence-building and skills development aspects of overseas volunteering are very valuable to young people and the English Camp provides a well-supported experience which enables volunteers to make an effective contribution to a developing country.”

Applications will open soon for any young person living in Upper Deeside (18-25 years), to apply for the Schoolhouse award.

Email Cathy at info@school-house.org, for an application form.

Tickets for the fundraising night, priced £9 are now on sale and can be purchased at Ballater Library and at Lochnagar Indian Brasserie, or reserved by calling Cathy on 013397 56333.
