Deeside residents are getting in the festive spirit with plans announced for the ‘Grand Switch On’ of Banchory’s Christmas lights.
On Thursday, November 28, Banchory will be launching the Festive Season with a ceremony in Scott Skinner Square.
Banchory Pipe Band will begin proceedings outside the Burnett Arms at 6.30pm, then march to Scott Skinner Square.
Banchory Singers will then perform a Christmas medley, followed by a choir made up of local Polish residents who will sing some of their traditional carols, and songs from Youth Industries.
Sources say an unnamed ‘local celebrity’ will officially switch on the Christmas tree lights at 7.30pm.
Many of the shops will open late that evening including Cook & Dine, Taylors and DFS to help with Christmas shopping, and there will be various stalls selling Christmas gifts to raise funds forlocal charities.
Banchory fire service will be on hand with their Festive Fire Engine and fancy dress firefighters.
Hot chocolate and savoury pies will also be sold in the Square by Continental Cream and Chatterbox, hot dogs by the Scouts in the High Street.
Banchory town Co-Ordinator Jan Leatham said: ”We are also expecting a visit from Santa so we look forwardd to starting Banchory’s festive season in style – see you there!”
