Peterculter folk have had what can only called “a choc shock” as a local chocolatier suddently announced he’s leaving the village.

Jamie Hutcheon, chocolatier director of ‘Cocoa Ooze’ on Culter’s main street, took the surprise decision only two weeks ago to close down his popular tearoom and chocolate workshop to concentrate all his business in his successful city branch in Belmont Street.

Jamie told the Piper: “We have made this decision due to our increased levels of business in other areas of the company.

‘‘ We will be housing this all under one roof in our Belmont Street property, which will be expanding in 2015. This will accommodate our business-to-business (corporate and wholesale) sectors and we will have a lot more exciting services to offer you all.”

Jamie decided to train professionally as a chocolatier (chocolate maker) when he was only 17, eventually branching out on his own with family help by initially making many of the chocolates in his parents’ kitchen in Stonehaven.

He opened Cocoa Ooze in Culter three years ago, starting in style with a huge event which saw Jamie dressed as Willie Wonka from Roald Dahl’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Cocoa Ooze will close at 3pm on Christmas Eve.
