Aberdeenshire West MSP Alexander Burnett and the vice consul of the Consulate General of Japan were among the guests for a new exhibition which opened recently at the Milton Art Gallery.

Ms Yoko Murata, the Edinburgh-based official, attended the preview showing of Lyrical Abstraction, a display of stone sculpture.

The artists, Kate Thomson and Hironori Katagiri, create beautiful and dramatic abstract forms.

They have both won awards for their work and exhibit together but also individually.

Mr Burnett described the work as “captivating and thought-provoking”.

The exhibition runs until Sunday, October 23. Contact www.miltonart.com for further information.
