Meghan Bruce works as a logistics coordinator for Caledonian Logistics. She has recently completed her Modern Apprenticeship qualification in Logistics Operations and has been shortlisted as a finalist for the NESCol Apprentice of the Year award.

The logistics sector was a complete unknown for Meghan when she accepted the apprenticeship position a year and a half ago.

Meghan said: “I wanted a job with progression and saw the apprenticeship position advertised so I applied knowing very little about it. To begin with it was quite stressful – there was so much information in a busy environment and every day was different to the last. Now I’m really enjoying it – it’s going really well.”

Meghan has been working in the office throughout the pandemic. When her role became slightly quieter last year, due to less freight on the roads, she was able to focus and complete her college work liaising with the NESCol assessor by email.

“I would love to continue extending my knowledge of the transport industry in the future – perhaps extra courses or learning on the job. There’s lots of exciting possibilities. From my experience I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship. You gain a qualification at the end of it and there’s all the help and support around you to make sure you succeed.”

Meghan’s mum, Moira MacInnes said: “I couldn’t be prouder of Meghan with what she has achieved in such a short space of time.

"She was always an outdoors girl who loved animals and this job couldn’t be further from that, so at first I was a little worried how she’d take to it, but she’s settled into it just fine, almost like a made-to-measure fit and now she’s been shortlisted for this amazing award.

"What an achievement, and it’s all down to her own hard work, diligence and effort.

"The family hope she will go on to achieve whatever goals she sets herself in life.”

With this start, it seems that Meghan knows exactly what she wants and where she wants to be. Good luck Meghan.
