Donside star Emeli Sande may need to invest in a bigger trophy cabinet after being nominated for two prestigious Ivor Novello awards.

The recent Brit Awards winner is in the running for both the best song and most performed work prizes for her 2012 hit Next To Me – taken from her chart-topping album Our Version Of Events.

However she will face stiff competition in her two categories from the likes of Jake Bugg, Olly Murs and Coldplay.

The former Alford Academy pupil will be hoping to add to her haul of gongs after hitting the right note at the Brits earlier this year.

She picked up prizes for best British female and album of the year at the Awards in February.

Commenting on Twiiter Emeli simply said: “I’ve been nominated for 2 Ivor Novellos!!!” she then added the hashtag #dreamcometrue.

Nicknamed The Ivors, the awards began in 1955 and now take place each May.

They are the only award ceremony in the musical calendar that is not influenced by publishers and record companies but judged and presented by the writing community.

Previous winners include some of the biggest names in music for the past five decades like Sir Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Queen and Madonna.
