A Staggering Solicitor, Dr Who and K9, the Loch Ness Monster and The Stig are just some of the sights to behold in Ballater from this Saturday as Ballater Victoria Week gets under way.
The Ballater Victoria Week 2013 Scarecrow Competition has received a record 45 entries and locals and visitors are encouraged to come and tour the village to see what the creative folk have come up with this year to help raise money for local causes and maybe win a prize.
Trail Maps will be available from the BVW box office (the hut on the green), when it opens today (August 2) at 10am, and every day during Victoria Week, which runs from Saturday August 3 to Sunday 11. Priced at £2 anyone who uses the form voting to list their favourites will be entered into a prize draw for dinner for two at Ballater’s Glen Lui Hotel.
Meanwhile, the infamous ninja duck tickets for the duck race on Sunday August 11 have been selling well, and racers are encouraged to get quacking if they want to secure a duck number in the colour of their choice (red, white, blue, pink and green also available). Profits from Victoria Week are ploughed back into the community via various local organisations and charities, with over £3,500 dished out last year.
Other highlights of the week include a car parade of over 60 classic and interesting vehicles (Sunday 4), Amy Muir’s Victorian photo studio, a family ceilidh (Thursday 8), astronomy night, a talent show (Sunday 11) and pet show (Monday 5), alongside films, sporting, and musical events.
