Total team donates to Horseback UK
Deeside charity Horseback UK has received a cash boost thanks to a team from an energy company.
Each year Total E&P UK (TEPUK) hosts its Safety Health and Environment (SHE) awards to recognise outstanding performance by its employees and contractors.
In 2016 one of the categories in these awards was for the Best Environmental Improvement/Intervention award which is awarded to an individual or team that has developed and/or introduced an improvement to the environment on or offshore.
The winning team, nominated by Laura Cliffe, HR manager at TEPUK was the SCION Team. SCION is a project based development scheme which enables staff to acquire skills in addition to those gained in their core discipline.
This latest group comprised six individuals from varying disciplines across TEPUK. The team’s drive and enthusiasm ensured the installation of four new Cairns and message boards at the local Torry Battery, improving the local environment and increasing visitors to the area.
In recognition of the award the team were awarded £1000 to donate to a charity of their choice. They chose to donate it to local charity Horseback UK (HBUK) located in Dinnet near Aboyne, which takes wounded servicemen and women and rehabilitates them with the help of horses.
HBUK has helped more than 500 veterans and have now branched out to help children in local schools.
On Thursday, February 7, Bruce Lawson, TEPUK’s SHE director and representatives from the SCION team, visited the facility to formally hand over the cheque and learn more about the important work HBUK carry out.
Louise Cook, SCION team member said: “I had heard of HBUK before but it wasn’t until after receiving a demonstration and a comprehensive presentation that I then fully understood the core purpose of this charity. The work that they do with the military, horses and the wider community is fantastic. A truly rewarding and charity that is just on our doorstep.”
