Alford’s Emeli Sande was celebrating this week after a dream debut in the UK’s top 40.
The talented singer/songwriter said she was delighted when her single Heaven hit number two in the top 40 chart.
Emeli, 24, was at the Radio 1 studios in London alongside hip hop artist Wretch 32, who landed the top spot with his track Don’t Go.
Emeli’s single was released last Monday and the former Alford Academy pupil received support from stars including Kylie Minogue, Coldplay, Calvin Harris and Tinie Tempah.
The former medical student also had time to pay a return visit to her old school, wowing hundreds of pupils with an exclusive performance.
