Aboyne will hold it’s first ever Winter Festival next month with the Cairngorm Reindeers set to visit the Deeside Village.
The event will take place on Sunday, December 20, from 12pm till 3pm and has been made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of a dedicated committee of volunteers.
Kerry Anderson, one of the women at the heart of organising the festival told the Piper how much work has gone in to getting everything ready.
She said: “Lynn Timmins and myself felt Aboyne lacked Christmas activity and decided to introduce a winter festival and book the Cairngorm Reindeers.
“They cost £2100 so that was our initial target to raise so we got a small committee together and planned how we would raise the funds.”
The organisers also did a bag pack at Aboyne Co-op and had a ladies night fundraiser and have a children’s Xmas party coming up.
“We have raised enough to cover costs and plan to continue fundraising to make this an annual event, hoping it’s bigger and better each year.
“We have a child’s story teller in a yurt, we have a face painter and a child’s carnival ride and will be serving tea and coffee, shortbread and warming soup as well as a few Xmas stalls and carol singing.
“We are very excited and invite everyone to come along and enjoy. If anyone wishes to get involved or donate please contact us through our Facebook page or myself on 07817209939.
“We are also up for a share of the profits from the carrier bags at Aboyne co-op so if you have a card please vote for us.”
