Banchory folk love their local market

Love Your Local Market fortnight is coming up next month and it is clear that Banchory residents are loving the stalls in Bellfield Car Park.

Farmers Markets have seen a huge resurgence in recent years, as people become more and more concerned with the provenance of produce.

Banchory Farmers Market has been in Bellfield Car Park since June 2014 and now boasts 20 stalls, ranging from bread, meat and fish to chocolate, olives and oils with fresh vegetables, plants, cheese and of course Wark Farm’s popular pork pies.

Many of the stallholders have been with the market for years and have built up a rapport with regular customers, but Banchory continues to see new customers and sellers each month.

The market is held on the third Saturday of the month, with the next two dates being May 16 and June 20.

A community stall is available each month free of charge for local fundraising, and local businesses can also take a stall to showcase their wares.

A couple of items remain on the Farmers Market List. David Ritchie, the Market Manager, is looking for an assistant. This is a paid position involving setting up and clearing away the market. There is potential for the role to involve publicity but this is not essential.

The organisers are also looking to add catering to the market, with someone offering tea, coffee and bacon rolls.

Anyone who thinks they could help with either of these items is asked to contact the Farmers Market Team on
