Banchory is preparing to welcome its second pipe band championship.
The North of Scotland competition will be held on Sunday, May 15, at King George V Park.
It is a day of competitive playing and marching with bands from throughout Scotland, showcasing some of the country’s finest piping and drumming talent.
Crowds who attended last year’s event were impressed by 17 massed bands who played at the spectacular finale.
The family-friendly event is sponsored by the Banchory Business Association (BBA) and gates open at 10am.
A BBA spokesperson said: “More than 1,000 people attended last year’s competition in King George V Park, the first to be held in Banchory for more than 30 years, and one of only three outdoor pipe band competitions to be held in the North-east.
“This year we are delighted to announce that not one, but two Grade 1 bands will be taking part, the Scottish Power and Police Scotland Fife pipe bands.”
The spokesperson added: “There will also be a selection of craft, retail and market stalls, and well as local food and drink, including a hog roast from Deeside Activity Park and drinks provided by the boys from Banchory Beer Festival.
“There are still opportunities for trade stand and private gazebos, and the organisers would love some help to set up on Friday and Saturday.”
Entry on the day is £5.
There was great interest in last year’s competition with the event being promoted to the North of Scotland Pipe Band Championship.
Organisers felt it was a major vote in confidence in Banchory and the team behind the new event.
Apart from the competition itself, one of the popuklar attractions was a tent where youngsters could try out their skills on the chanter and find out more about the different bands.
