Banchory musicians have beaten a deluge of entries to compete for a place performing at Fyvie Live 2012, in aid of North-east cancer charity Friends of ANCHOR.

Tacado, an alternative rock three-piece band, has been selected as one of the eight finalists to perform live at the AECC on Sunday (June 10) in front of a panel of judges to fight for their chance to be added to the Fyvie Live line-up.

Sarah-Jane Milne, PR & Fundraising Manager at Friends of ANCHOR, said: “We have truly been overwhelmed with the response from talented performers wishing to take part in the Battle for Fyvie. With so many talented musicians vying for a place in the competition it was a very difficult task of whittling the entries down to just eight.”

Tacado, comprised of Tyler Catt, 19, Nick Harper, 18, and Charlie Grimble, 19, formed when the three friends met in first year of Banchory Academy. After starting in Aberdeen, they have recently spread their sound and grown their fan base all over Scotland. Following their live audition at Battle for Fyvie, the band will be heading south for their first major gig in Glasgow at award-winning music venue, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut.

Tyler Catt, Tacado, said: “We are incredibly excited about performing at Battle for Fyvie this weekend. The news of being selected for the final eight came as a complete shock and we’re really really proud to have reached this stage in the competition. If were to win the band spot in the Fyvie Live line up it would be our biggest and best experience yet. We’ve never played outdoors before, nor to such a huge crowd, so to get the Fyvie Live gig would be massive for the band.”

If Tacado successfully win the coveted ‘Battle for Fyvie Top Band’ position they will go on to perform live in front of a 6,500-strong crowd on the lawns of Fyvie Castle on Saturday, August 4. The Battle for Fyvie winners, one solo artist and one band, will join the likes of chart-topping solo artist, Sophie Ellis-Bextor; Scottish Supergroup Braebach and Scotland’s top cover band, The Bogus Brothers.
