A Deeside singer/songwriter has achieved further success in an international songwriting competition.

Ed Gardyne’s song ‘Dark Silence’ got to the semi-final of the UK Songwriting Competition and two other songs were highly commended.

This is the second year in a row that one of Ed’s songs has got to the semi-final. Last year his song ‘Lovelight’ also made it to this stage.

The UK Songwriting Competition judges include many top industry names like top producer Stuart Epps, BRIT Award winning producer, songwriter and musical director Simon Ellis, the legendary producer, musical director and arranger Richard Niles, and award winning country star Lucie Diamond.

The Banchory man, who performs under the name Ko-Dyne, only began song writing last year and has quickly established a large online following for his soulful pop songs with over 11,000 plays on MySpace and nearly 3000 followers on Twitter. Some of his songs are available on iTunes and others as free download on Soundcloud.

He also has his own website to showcase his songs at

Commenting on his success, Ed said: “It’s a great feeling to know that top music industry people have judged my songs so highly. Music appreciation is very subjective but to gain recognition in this competition for two years in a row indicates that I must be doing something right and it spurs me on to try even harder. Next year I would like to get to the final and perhaps win the competition.

“I am currently working on a collection of new songs which I will be recording with producer Andy Haldane in Glasgow over the next few months. I also plan more live performances in 2012.”

Ed also hopes to inspire other musicians in the area.

He added: “I would like to help other talented local song writers and singers in Deeside to achieve their full potential by sharing my experience and I am open to collaboration on projects. Contact me on Twitter or by e-mail to discuss.”
